Another fun senior session! In case we haven't told you, senior sessions can get a little messy :) We hadn't planned on sitting Jessica in the creek, but we ended up with fun shots!

I can't believe Hannah's already 1 month, and mom looks great! Here's a couple from Hannah's session.

Cake Smashing Party

I think every one year old should have this done! This little one didn't know what to think when I set a cake in front of her and let her dig in.

Meet Mariah! She plays basketball, golfs, and always wears he hair up (except for Sr. pics). Mariah and her mom entertained me throughout the session. Proofs will be in Wednesday, Mariah!

This was an on-location engagement shoot at the beautiful Iowa State Campus. There are so many photo ops here, I had a hard time narrowing down my favorites. Tabitha and Justin were so amazing to work with. I wish you both luck in your wonderful future together!

About our Enagement sessions

Each session is photographed by Stacy Andersen, and occasionally an assistant. We shoot 1 1/2 to 2 hours starting with formal shots that you may want to use for the newspaper, or whatever. Then, we like to spend a little time with the couple in fun, relaxed poses. The point of the session is to capture the intamacy between the couple. Many times, a couple is never photographed professionally after their wedding--until family picture time. I believe it's very important to capture this time in your life. For that reason, I spend a lot of time getting to know couples before the wedding. I want the only pictures of you and your significant other to reflect the closeness of your relationship at this special time.

What not to wear

It's so much easier to say what to avoid, rather than "what to wear". Basically, I like fun bright clothing, and I'm always trying to incorporate more color in to my portraits.

Say no to:

Stripes--they don't photograph well. This is particularly true for pinstripes.

Neutral colors can work outdoors, if you like those colors. Indoors, they may wash out your skin.

Glittery make-up--gives your skin white specks. This also goes for clothing. Sequins are fine, but the "glittery" stuff doesn't work.

For black and white pics: Bring along a white or black top.

Accessories: Bring 'em! I love hats, scarves, jackets, shoes...whatever you can find!

Consider a variety for your pictures: Maybe something dressy, something basic, and one or two trendy outfits.

Make-up: Basically, whatever you normally wear will be fine. Try to remember to bring along a little powder and lip gloss.

Senior Season Begins!

Well, I've been a horrible blogger--it's been a busy month! I wanted to share pics from a really fun senior session with Ashley. After all, she's the first client I've ever had who a) made faces at me when she knew I was changing camera settings, and b) the only client who ever tried eating my cone flowers! Popcicles

I had the greatest idea yesterday. I wanted to photograph my 4 year old all sticky and messy outdoors--beacause, frankly, that's how I want to remember him when he was young--playing hard, rough and dirty. Strange parent, aren't I?

But, my OCD set in. I had to find the perfect colored lolli, the brightest shirt possible, and the greenest patch of grass.

Popcicles don't come in turquoise or teal, but I was pretty happy with the outcome anyhow!

Visiting Grandma

Chance really enjoyed "snack time" at Grandma's house. My mom had picked up some edible bugs. I wonder if she thought the kids would really eat them. Chelsea, of course, had no part in tasting bugs what-so-ever, but Chance thought it was a great idea--he wanted me to make some at home!

These two were so much fun to work with! These are just a couple candid shots from the day. Sometimes my favorite shots are those where no one is aware of the camera position.

Brian and Melissa Jacobs

Audubon, Iowa

I always love visiting new churches, reception cites and other venues. Brian and Melissa's family rented the Taylor Hill Lodge north of Audubon on Hwy 71 for rehersal dinner. The Lodge is a great spot for smaller gatherings. A full kitchen, large dining area, jacuzzi and room for 12 guests. Definately worth checking out!

Perfectly Pink! (And Chocolate). Melissa and her mom made these great little truffle treats and packages them in miniature boxes wrapped with pink bows and monogrammed seals. Very cute, and tasty!
